Livingwell TKD is a club with a long tradition. For us, it's not all about serious training: we love it when our teams win, but we're just as enthusiastic about our groups that simply meet for fun.
We don't differentiate between our members. Anyone is welcome to join us. Our qualified trainers are team members just like anyone else and will be happy to tell you more about the sports activities we offer and help you find the place that's right for you.
We're always happy to welcome new members who are interested in joining in with club activities, helping us organise events or excursions and being part of our community.
Livingwell Taekwondo Academy is probably the businest and most professional martial arts club in the south-east.
Taekwondo, however, is not just for the physically fit and isn't only suited to one section of the comunity. Taekwondo is an all-inclusive sport and martiall art, suited to virtually everyone. Whether you're a parent looking for an activity for your child or just looking for a fun activity yourself, age, fitness level, even disability is no boundary. As long as a student can listen, understand and do, then Taekwondo may just be for you.
At Livingwell Taekwondo Academy we pride ourselves on the level of tuition we offer, constantly developing, changing and adapting the way we teach and run the club, always for the better. If you have a problem, whatever it may be, talk to us, we will always try to help. Your feedback is always important and beneficial.
A Typical Taekwondo class will cover all aspects of the martial art, including cardio-vascular improvement; technical poomsae development and kyorugi (sparring) techniques, as well as all the required syllabus elements for kup and dan gradings.
Kup gradings are the start of your Martial Art journey where each student can grade and certify onto the next level of skills and techniques within the sport, this is done by a class practical assessment where all the students can show their skills and techniques to the Instructors. Kup grades are defined by wearing a distinctive colured belt according to their grade. Everyone starts with white and progresses accordingly - and there is no rush. We like to make sure each person is comfortable with their progress before moving on.
Once students have then completed all the Kup grade levels (typically 10 levels of grade) they will then be submitted to take a Dan grading (Black belt). This is the belt students strive for and most look forward to achieving as it means you have fully matured into the sport and reached the top level and the next stage of your journey can begin. Dan grades then follow on in number sequence, Dan 1, Dan 2, Dan 3 etc up to Dan 5 (Master) and then up to Dan 8 (Grand Master) and so on. A gold bar embroided onto the belt signifies Dan rank, often with the athletes name.
The buzz and excitement each and everyone gets when they grade onto their next belt is something always cherished, and most definitely an achievement to be proud of.
